TV Mount Buyer’s Guide

There are two main types of TV mounts, tilt, and full-motion. A tilt mount is best for large or heavy TVs and sits closer to the wall than a full motion TV mount. A full motion mount allows you to pull the TV away from the wall and turn it at an angle. Full motion TV mounts are great for smaller TVs, in smaller spaces like apartments but are not recommended for large or heavy TVs.

We’ve chosen the following TV mounts for their price point, durability and strength, and the ability to easily adjust the tilt and level of the TV. It is also important to choose the right mount for your wall studs. Some wall studs are placed further apart and require a mount that is wide enough to attach to two studs. The TV mounts linked on this page are all a minimum of 24” wide, allowing for more options when mounting your TV to the wall. For more information, see our blog article on choosing the right TV mount. If you would like to install the mount yourself, you can use our guides on how to mount a TV to wood studs, or how to mount a TV to metal studs. Which cable concealment kit should you buy?

There are two main types of cable concealment kits, with power or without power. The powered kits give you a power outlet behind your TV, but will still need to be plugged into an existing wall socket. It’s basically a fire-rated / code-compliant extension cord hidden behind the wall. That cable comes out of the wall 18” from the floor and is then plugged into an existing electrical outlet. If you would like a completely hidden outlet, without the need to plug into an existing outlet, we will recommend an electrician that can properly install the outlet for you.

There is a third option to conceal cables, called a cable raceway. It is a surface mounted piece of plastic that hides the cables and stick to the wall with adhesive.

If you would like to install the kit yourself, see our blog article on how to install a cable concealment kit behind your wall. Please note, these cable concealment kits do not work in walls with foam insulation or on brick, concrete, or stone walls. If you have concrete, brick, or stone walls, you’ll need to use a surface mount cable raceway, or hire a professional electrician to install an outlet for you.
